Carving Pumpkins

November 1, 2009

Better late then never right? Even though it was the day after Halloween me and the kids carved our pumpkins! Marin let us have a bunch of newspaper so that we could get down and dirty then throw the whole mess away! Emily picked a cat pattern out of the books we had and Ty made up his very own design. Kenny was out working on the barn the whole time so I carved a pumpkin for him and the kids were very excited to show off their work when he came in the house.

Tiger napped on the couch while we carved the pumpkins.  I love this kitty!

Had to get a porch shot when we were all done.  This is what it WOULD have looked like on Halloween night.

Halloween 2009

October 31, 2009

I think this has been the best Halloween yet! We had a full day full of Halloween activities!

The kids had the Halloween parade at school. Emily had decided that she wanted to be a witch and I found a great costume for her when I was up in Portland with Kathi. The week OF Halloween she decided that she wanted to be the Phantom of the Opera! I scrambled to find a mask online and have it shipped fast and the rest just fell into place. She used my cloak that I have had forever and I found a black wig and neck tie and necklace at Smiths. I was really happy with the way it all came together. The best part was no one even knew who she was! She came up with it all by herself and was really happy with the costume!

Ty was a GI Joe Guy. We found his costume at Costco clear back in the beginning of September. He loved it because it had built in muscles. And I really liked the helmet. We sprayed his hair red for the school parade. I helped with his Halloween Party in his Kindergarten class. My station was cookie decorating. We used spaghetti licorice to make legs and turned the cookies into spiders. The kids had a fun time and there are always those few that put three inches of frosting and completely cover the whole cookie with assorted sprinkles. That always makes me laugh. They had enough helpers in Emily's class so I went with Marin to help her in Michael's 6th grade class. Ty came with us and helped us pass out the cookies, frosting and sprinkles.

On Grandpa and Grandma Coleman's Porch

This house had compression hoses that made the zombie fall forward.  The banshe in the cage rattle and there was loud pops and spooky music.  The picture really doesnt do it justice!

When Kenny got home we hit the neighborhood for trick-or-treating. Emily was fading towards the end so we packed up and headed to the Coleman's to see grandma and grandpa. Kenny's neighborhood has always been the place to be on Halloween night! My sister Steph and I used to grab a PILLOW CASE and get dropped off and be gone until there were no more porch lights on. It is such a fun neighborhood and almost everyone participates in the spooky fun! We found some incredible houses that were decorated and totally decked out. There was three houses serving hot homemade doughnuts. One house did cotten candy. Another house was serving homemade sugar cookies. There were 100's of kids out and you could hear spooky music up and down the streets. Our kids have never had enough stamina to actually be out longer than the 26 houses in our neighborhood! But I think because of how much fun it was they were ready to GO go GO! We walked them around for a few hours and they totally filled their buckets! It was awesome!!! After we had our fill we headed to the Colby's to see my mom. My dad was at work so just Grandma was home. We sat and had a lovely visit.... there was a show on TV about stick ball in the streets of New York. Since Kenny served his mission in NY he saw a lot of those games when he was there. He explained stuff to my mom while I looked at the news paper and the kids played. It was the perfect way to end the evening. We brought home two exhausted but very happy children that night!

Emily Gets Her Egg!!!

October 27 ,2009

Emily has been working ALLLLLL summer for a replica necklace of the magic egg from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
My dad made an agreement with her if she would pick up the dog poop in the back yard 49 times then he would give her the egg necklace.
I made a chart and went in 1/2 on the necklace because of the price. Things were going great when she was out of school and we were down at my mom's almost every day. But when school started and we had homework and a bed time to stick to we didn't make it down as much as we had hoped. All of the other cousins and even Grandma helped out to help her earn the egg. It has been all she could talk about since summer! She lost interest half way through the job so grandpa pulled out the necklace and let her actually see that he had it for her and she got to hold it for a minute. That was all she needed to light the fire again and she would ask me daily if we were going down to grandmas house.
Cant you just see the joy in her eyes!!!  I am really grateful to my dad for teaching her such a valuable lesson.  If you work really hard for something you can acheieve it.  No matter what the job is if you do your best you will be rewarded.

Emily's Baptism

September 26, 2009

This was one of the most special and memorable days of my life! The whole day was so surreal! I cant believe that I have a daughter old enough to be baptized and that it all happenend for our little family! Kenny baptized and confirmed Emily. Her middle name comes from my best aunt Becky..... it just so happened that she was batized on Becky's birthday! I am so happy that she was able to come from Denver to be there for Emily's special day!

Emily was very excited and was so happy to see all of our friends and family come out to support her! She said that the water so very warm and she had a special feeling.

Ade and I did a labor trade... and her part of the deal was to do all of the desserts for the baptism lunch.  It was a spectacular spread!!!!  And I appreciate it more than she could ever know!!!!

I will never forget this day!

Em and Ty's Joint Birthday Party

September 25, 2009

Happy Birthday Em and Ty!
We had such a fun party BUT my pictures were totally lacking because I was too busy running around! Cindy let us borrow her relatives bounce house! That was such an awesome addition to the party. Kenny grilled hotdogs so the kids jumped in the bounce house and played duck duck goose until the dogs were ready. I dont know what I would have done if my mom wouldn't have been there!  She was a super star! And really helped keep things moving and doing every little extra thing that needed to be done.
After everyone ate we did the pinata, Justin Muir was the one who broke the it wide open and dropped all the candy for the kids to grab... then it was cake and presents time.

Emily's Field Trip to Cabellas and Thanksgiving Point

Emily had a great field trip with the whole second grade.  We went to Cabellas and they had a employee explain how they stuff the animals and also described a lot of neat facts about the different animals they had around the store.  They each got to shoot at the shooting gallery as well.  Then we went over to Thanksgiving Point.  Crazy Connie gave us a ride on the wagon being pulled by a tractor.  We walked around and learned about all the different farm animals and we also got to make homemade ice cream.  Emily's cousin Kaylee had a Flat Stanley project from school that she sent her.  We were supposed to take him with us where we went and then write a letter and send him back to her class.  I had him pose for a bunch of different pictures so we could make a little photo album to send back to Kaylee's class.

This is Emily's best friend Shannon

They are such cute friends
